WINGSPAN CLUB CLOSURE

It is with great regret that we have to inform members that the Wingspan clubhouse will be closing for business at the end of June 2013.

The clubhouse operation has been facing difficult trading conditions for a number of years now and, despite the dedicated efforts of Jo Apps and her team to increase usage of the venue, there has been no significant improvement.

Furthermore, in today’s challenging economic environment, many companies no longer support a company club. While BA has no intention of doing that, it has signalled its intention to reduce its financial commitment to BA Clubs.

These two factors have led the Central Council of BA Clubs to carefully review the situation at Gatwick with the conclusion that the closure of the clubhouse is unavoidable.

The club itself will remain in being and all the other benefits of membership will be unaffected, including the Lottery. Sections that do not use the clubhouse for their activities will carry on as before.

With regard to activities that use the clubhouse, we are actively searching for alternative venues to partner with and would welcome any suggestions from members.  Please contact Jo Apps (joanne.apps@baclubs.com).

As soon as we are able to determine what facilities will be available to Club members with effect from 1st July, we will be able to decide on the appropriate level of membership fees going forward.

We will keep members informed of developments through regular updates on the Club’s website (www.baclubs.com/wingspan).
